Motorcyle Ride through Chernobyl
May 06, 2004
I came across, via Eric Meyer's site, a photojournal of motorcyle ride through Chernobyl. Many of the pictures contained on the site are both beautiful and spooky.
Also, I picked up this interesting factoid:
Radiation sits on the soil, on the grass, in apples and mushrooms. It is not retained by asphalt, which makes rides through this area possible
Update ( May 29, 2004):
It appears as if the story is slightly fictitious. Mary Mycio writes that
I am sorry to report that much of Elena's story is not true. She did not travel around the zone by herself on a motorcycle. Motorcycles are banned in the zone, as is wandering around alone, without an escort from the zone administration. She made one trip there with her husband and a friend. They traveled in a Chornobyl car that picked them up in Kyiv.
